Date: 2022-08-20 01:34 pm (UTC)Too true, but the existence of Fritz kind of depends on it. No SD/FW, no Fritz, and of course a very different European history. (No idea whom FW would have married in that case. Not Caroline, she was already with G2 and also she didn't want him, but I guess he'd have ended up with some of the minor (Protestant) princesses from the various German realms, maybe a Brunswick girl. But whoever she would have been, she would not have been obsessed with marrying her kids to their Hannover/GB cousins, and with a different genetic make-up, who knows what FW's successor would have done with that full treasury and army.

I have often been glad that I don't have the kind of time-traveling power that would make me have to choose between "largely bad event" and "really good side effect." This is just another instance of that.
