I am the cheese (Cormier)

I read I am the Cheese for the third time today - I seem to have been reading it about once a decade or so. This time, I believe for the first time, I finally totally understood the plot. How is it that this book is classified as teen lit?? Or maybe I'm just slow. Well, at least I'm improving!

I first read it in...junior high? Maybe early HS?...and I've loved it ever since...but I'm still not entirely sure I completely understand it. I think that's the point, really, and probably why I like it so. I've had mixed reactions to other Cormier; nothing has grabbed me as hard as that one did so far.

Yeah, this is the one I keep coming back to. That and the second Chocolate War book... I've read most of his other books, but have not particularly felt attached to them (and there was at least one I downright disliked).
