We are back home, possibly unwisely, but so far everyone is doing fairly well, possibly in large part due to the air purifier we acquired in the meantime (or possibly not, it's hard to know how much of E's general malaise has to do with the air quality and how much to do with Not Wanting To Practice and knowing that she's likely to get some slack at this time, and how much our general not feeling all that great has to do with smoke inhalation and how much to do with the inevitable cold we always have around here). Fire is 30% contained as of this evening, which I guess doesn't sound (isn't) all that great, but compared to a couple of days ago is super awesome. We saw blue sky today! Also, ironically, it's not spreading as quickly because it just reached the burn line of the last big fire we had around here...

Haha, yes, we're doing fine. There are a bunch of people around here who are for real evacuated and/or have lost their homes... I don't know anyone personally (yet, at least) who has lost a home, though the number of people I know who have been evacuated unfortunately rose again this morning :(

Yes, though less scary for us as we're on the lee side of the highway from the fire, so it would have to jump pretty far to get to us. Lots of people on the other side who are in a much scarier situation. On the other hand as of today we can now see the fire from our house, which is disturbing.

ugh these WINDS! Thankfully they have died down again here, but not before spreading the fire. Bags are packed, yup.

Thanks! Things are fine for us. Lots of people who are in a much worse position and in fact evacuations started growing this morning... we're in a relatively safe place at the lee side of the highway.

I hope you're doing okay today and over the weekend. I keep getting these alarming photos from my parents because they can now see the fire from their house, it all seems very close right now.

...Yeah. Last night/this morning the high winds blew it over and we can now see the fire from our house too. We took our own set of alarming photos today and tonight. Are your parents in a voluntary evacuation zone? They're (voluntary) evacuating a large part of north SB as of this morning. South of the freeway, east of Montecito seems to be OK so far.

We're thinking about getting out of town again, although I've been told the wind has died down again so they have a fighting chance to get it down for the next several days. Fingers crossed.
