Everyone knows the Met and other opera companies are streaming opera free right now, right?

Tonight the Met is streaming Eugene Onegin, so everyone should watch it and then report back to me :)

(In two weeks the Met will be streaming their Don Carlo. Just Saying :P )

Hell, if I miss it I might just look for a used DVD! I don't have enough operas on DVD anyway.

They are being really generous but at the same time I wish they would have an "encore performance" the day after maybe a little earlier, in the afternoon. OTOH I know I'm being completely greedy, and also I have a lot of those Magic Flute UTU videos you blogged about ON REPEAT throughout the day. Fortunately my husband likes the opera. He is looking a little skeptical about the Wagner Marathon starting at the Met next week tho.

Anyway, RENEE FLEMING. I know it makes me a basic opera fan or whatever but I don't care, I just adore her. I can feel my blood pressure drop about 10 points listening to her Casta Diva: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg4L5tcxFcA (Altho Jesus I forgot how nasty opera fans are on UTU. And are they all Callas stans? I love her too, but really!)

RENEE FLEMING IS SO GORGEOUS IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY and her voice has this gorgeous warm tender quality is the only way I can think to describe it. So beautiful.

My mom had the Solti Gottendammerung with Birgit Nilsson and Fischer-Dieskau (she was a DFD fangirl and passed that on to me, LOL). My fave growing up was Siegfried, tho.) My dad absolutely loved Siegfrieds Tod and would put it on very early in the morning as he had his coffee.

I don't think I've ever actually heard all of Das Rheingold /o\ I might just stream it on the big TV and kind of leave it in the background while preparing the Plague Cooking Supplies.

I've decided that I'm going to stream Tristan while working, not to focus on, but be introduced to, as if it were radio.

Ooh, that's a nice idea. imhoe a lot of Wagner doesn't come off well staged anyway, it's more like an Opera of the Mind.

I've only ever seen Wagner in semi-staged concert versions, and felt it really worked. Opera North's brilliant concert Ring Cycle (their Gotterdammerung was my first ever Wager) is available to view online https://www.operanorth.co.uk/the-ring-cycle/

Oh, VERY cool, thanks! and I agree re the semi-staging, that can really work. (I have to admit I love semi-staging anyway, the kind of interactive? quality of it really sends me.)

Don't you have it available for 24 hours? Here (UK) it seems that it starts at the time scheduled, and then can be watched online for 24 hours afterwards. In the, the start time is to late for the evening of broadcast (about 7:30 = 11:30) so I'll be watching Onegin tonight.

I didn't realize it was available for 20 hours afterward! I've been very distracted and anxious lately.

Entirely understandable, I've felt the same myself.
