My hope when asking was that both were correct; the only "problem" is that I wasn't 100% sure about my reading and needed to check with a native speaker that my reading made sense!

For context, a lot of the things I run by you are things that I'm preeeetty sure are correct, but since I had to do a lot of thinking and some googling to arrive at an educated guess, because the handwriting wasn't clear, I want some reassurance that, say, "darum" wouldn't make ten times more sense there.

That's exactly what I thought, thank you.

This is the other category of Teuton-picking question: where the handwriting *is* clear, but what I'm seeing clearly makes no sense to me. That's where I need you to tell me whether it's my lapse or the writer's.
