Oh, another reason that I had mentally slotted Katte as chill about Catholicism was that, on his own initiative and without permission, he went AWOL to travel from Paris to Madrid, in a time when traveling was not much fun no matter how rich you were, to visit his BFF and mentor Socrates Count Rottembourg.

I guess that admiring and seeking advice from a Catholic is cool even if personally converting to Catholicism is worse than 18 years of paternal abuse? Idk. (And obviously it was England, not Spain, that Katte thought about settling down in.)
