Oh, do bring on the Dresden letter! The Wilhelmine travel correspondance website has some scans from both the letters she wrote and the letters she received, so I'm familiar with mature Fritzian handwriting (and with hers), but haven't seen anything predating 1732 in handwriting.

Hohenzollern heir: not the one currently sueing the State of Brandenburg for castles and money? That's Georg Friedrich.

Okay, unlike the Biche photo, these are taken by lamplight, but I think acceptable. You can click for full size.

(signed with "Frederic Le Philosophe" :D)

And while I've seen this (photo of a ?) Pesne painting elsewhere, I'll include it because it's dated 1729 and therefore seems to have the version of Fritz that's closest in age to when he wrote that letter:

Hohenzollern heir - no, not Georg Friedrich, this guy, his uncle, who died in 2015.

His uncle sounds like a more sensible fellow. I note with approval that he married outside of the high nobility despite Willy the idiot having disinherited any descendants who do this in advance, and that he wrote his doctoral thesis about the Hohenzollern and Nazidom, i.e. the very thing the current guy is in denial about.

Young Fritz letter: awwww, but also, go, Wilhelmine and Gustav Volz for being able to decypher this.

Seriously. I can see how differing scholarly opinions about punctuation and the like come about!
