the contemporary assumption that George arrives with two German mistresses (Katte's sort of aunt Melusine von Schulenburg and Sophia Charlotte (yes, another one) von Kielmansegg), while Grundy is more up to date and knows Kielmansegg was, in fact, George's illegitimate half sister, daughter of his father Ernst August
Reading along in Wilhelmine's memoirs, I kept running into Lady Arlington, some influential Hanoverian/Englishwoman who protects Letti (cahn, the evil governess who almost crippled Wilhelmine) and whom SD is afraid to piss off.
Then Wilhelmine finally says, "Illegitimate daughter of the previous Elector of Hanover, very influential with G1."
I immediately guessed it was the non-mistress you'd recently mentioned, and sure enough, Wikipedia is telling me that her name is Sophia von Kielmansegg, and that:
At the London court of George I, Sophia von Kielmansegg vied with Melusine von der Schulenburg, Duchess of Kendal, George's mistress. Her title Countess of Darlington in the Peerage of Great Britain, with the subsidiary title of Baroness of Brentford, was given by the king in 1722.
