Same here. But Fredersdorf didn't get or write any French letters, and I think Halsband read all the Fritz parts of his research in French. So I'm not sure the existence of Fredersdorf even registered with him.
Maybe she had picked up on Algarotti's flightiness and thought he was no damn good for Hervey, whereas Stephen was?
Absolutely. Stephen means stability and everybody getting along. Algarotti means a pining and moody Hervey who also having tense relationships with his usual bff, at least during the first phase of the Algarotti era. Also, Stephen has money and influence of his own and is a politician. Algarotti is a foreign job hunter. Best sent him to another patron who, since he's a King, clearly will outbid everyone else!
