I'm assuming we won't have to do another evidence post for Frederician RPF, since it was allowed last year, but we might have to do one for Enlightenment?
Also, we might have to be careful with Voltaire, lest the mods decide to make the two fandoms one because he's in both, which would limit the number of characters for us. Since I think he's very likely to show up in Enlightenment fic anyway, if someone writes it, whether he's nominated or not, I therefore propose switching him out with Hervey, i.e. I'll nominate Émilie, Hervey, Pompadour and Denis.
Your guys: Algarotti already has a tag on A03, so shouldn't be a problem. Lady Mary is Lady Mary Wortley-Montagu (not Montague!), Maupertuis is Pierre Louis Moreau de Maupertuis, and the correct Richelieu is Armand de Vignerot du Plessis, Duc de Richelieu. Here you need to be careful as Richelieu the Cardinal is Armand du Plessis, who has his own tag, and Enlightenment Richelieu does not have his own tag. So maybe after the name add the life dates (1696 – 1788) to make it crystal clear this is a new character and not the Cardinal.

Judging by the comment on this year's rules post, "If it was further back than last year, you might save us some time by linking to the comment again," no, since ours was last year. We might consider linking anyway, though?

Agree completely, and good catch!
the correct Richelieu is Armand de Vignerot du Plessis, Duc de Richelieu
Also, I may be misremembering, but I seem to recall the tag wranglers like to avoid royal/noble titles (though apparently regnal numbers are okay?), so by analogy with Cardinal Richelieu's tag, Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu, ours would be Armand de Vignerot du Plessis de Richelieu (1696-1788).
Yeah, I think we should do an evidence post for Enlightenment, in particular why we think it's *distinct* from Frederician RPF. Then we can also link to last year's post, in case they have any questions -- but they probably won't, as morbane is my DW friend and will remember having seen it :)
(I'm a little out of my depth here, so I'd ideally like one of you guys to at least write a rough draft, though if you want me to I'll take a stab.)
OK, thanks! Knowing the names is very helpful :) Oh, and this reminds me -- in the evidence post we should probably also mention that this Richelieu is not Armand du Plessis, in case others are as confused as I am :)
Possible issue with the fandom: The era overlaps with 18th Century Frederician fandom in terms of dates.
Why this fandom should be considered eligible: While the Frederician fandom focuses on a cast strongly connected to Friedrich II. of Prussia, "European Enlightenment" stands for an international cast of scientists, philosophers, writers and society people, most of whom don't have a connection to Friedrich, whose dynamics with each other we want to explore. If we nominate someone like Émilie du Chatelet or Lady Mary Wortley-Montagu, we want the focus to be on them as protagonists of the European Enlightenment in their own right. Morever, knowledge of them does not require knowledge of Prussian history, which, by contrast, is very important in the Frederician fandom.
Also, as a character note: we are nominating Armand de Vignerot du Plessis (1696-1788), Duc de Richelieu, who does not currently have a tag on AO3. Note that he is distinct from the more famous Cardinal Richelieu, Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu (1585-1642).
