But: note that Katte is really really careful not to implicate anyone else. Like Peter Keith. No mention of him anywhere... He presents his meeting and conversation with Wilhelmine
Ohhhhh! I didn't see that. Katte! <333333
So this strikes me as a very carefully managed classic first confession - confessing only to what has already been proven without the shadow of a doubt (Katte knew about Fritz' intentions and didn't report them for whatever reason, he was in the possession of the getaway money, the letter Fritz wrote him from the journey and the letter he wrote to Fritz say that Katte, too, is planning on deserting) - find the most harmless explanation possible for them (I was just reassuring him, but behind the scenes I was foiling him this entire time!) - and don't admit anything else.
Yes, that makes perfect sense :(
And yes, I do think Katte included it and the other examples to point out to FW why Fritz was acting like that, what he'd done to his son.
*nods* :(((((((
Because, remember, Fritz and Katte did NOT speak German to each other. They spoke French, to the very end. There is no equivalent mode of address in French.
