So to make up for the evening-Christmas-program DRAMA, the ward (congregation) choir has been spontaneously organizing sectionals. Spontaneously! I didn't even know about it until I sort of fell into one of the sectionals (through yet another music thing I was doing). There were ten people at the tenor sectional, y'all, which is basically everyone in the Christmas tenor section (by which I mean, Christmas gets people in choir who might not ordinarily come).

At least three other people, and counting, have told me they are coming to the much-more-hastily-organized alto sectional (I, uh, was shamed into emailing all the altos) on Saturday morning. Whcih is pretty much the entire alto section that doesn't have problems like, for example, being so physically unwell that they shouldn't be singing but do anyway, or looking after multiple sick kids.

I have neeeeever ever ever been in a choir (of more than five people) that spontaneously organized EXTRA REHEARSALS. This totally makes up for everything else. (Well, so far. Talk to me on the 24th and we will see whether I have survived that long. I can already tell my CAPS LOCK levels are getting dangerously high these days.)

Three cheers for spontaneous sectionals!

...people haven't sung the Hallelujah chorus? (Weakly) Oh, dear.

But with extra sectionals, surely they'll learn quickly. :-)

Well... it's a church choir, which means a) there are a lot of people who haven't done any singing outside of church choir, and b) the choir directors are frequently intimidated by things like the Hallelujah chorus. So it's not surprising, exactly? But yeah, I had it under my belt by the time I graduated high school :)

They were awesome by the end of this Sunday, when I ran rehearsal because the regular conductor was out of town, though I run it with a tiny iron fist! thus leading to a lot of people complaining about doing all the haaaaaard sections instead of the easy fun ones! But those spontaneous sectionals really paid off, and I think everyone was pretty happy when we sang it all the way through without any voice part completely losing it, a first!

I firmly believe there is no one who hasn't sung the Hallelujah chorus in the shower. So from there, it's a small step to vocal perfection, right? I know all about this--I've watched Glee.

Heeee! Yes, it's my husband D's term -- he thinks it's funny that I usually don't care about the details of, well, anything, except MUSIC, where I start getting All Opinionated!! :)

Thanks! The first hump of Christmas Drama is over. I have plans to mitigate the second (and hopefully last) hump; we shall see.
