How far did you make it in Nest? I finished it, mostly on the strength of 1.5x audiobook on the weekend drive home. It's interesting because I think I've read some of Wiswell's shorter fiction and come away neutral to vaguely positive. For Nest, I think I'm getting tripped up on whether the worldbuilding supports the world state the characters are in. Emotionally, yay, characters get a happily ever after and a baby, romance / love / support tropes (somewhat atypically?) achieved.
I think Nest's appeal is going to overlap with people who are really into A Sorceress Comes to Call. I'm not that person, and that's okay, that's why we have six nominees (though I still think five slots is plenty, especially when I'm slogging through the novels).
I should have read [Nest] around the same time as Service Model, I would have been able to finish it then.
Are there other nominees where you think your impressions were affected by reading order? I think I might have an easier run at Service Model if I hadn't already read Alien Clay, for example. So far I've bounced off the audiobook, I'm going to see if I can get through the first chapter in ebook.
