Yeah, I think skipping Many Waters was probably a good decision on your part! I did a full reread of the series a few years ago (which eventually led to my Yuletide request). I ended up liking A Swiftly Tilting Planet more this time around than I had as a kid, so I was optimistically hoping the same would be true for Many Waters , but instead it was… very much the opposite. I can forgive the wonky science, because as you say that’s very much a L’Engle characteristic, and honestly kind of endearing—but the sexism/gender stereotyping was pretty bad. I did like the mini mammoths, though!
