The Prince of Wales charged me with a commission from England for the King my master.
Evidently Fritz of Wales doesn't automatically dislike his mother's favourites, despite their feud. Just saying, Hervey, just saying.
If that was an actual commission and not just a "congrats on your accession," I can see why Fritz thought the English thought of Peter as half a Brit! (I've always read that as "I, Fritz, think of him as half British.")
Indeed, same here.
So I left after having seen Paris and the surrounding area, the Court at Versailles, and the other royal pleasure houses.
Peter taking the time to see the sights of Paris before hastening back to Prussia: genuine touristic curiosity, cold feet re: Fritz or both?
My friends always found this letter too lively and too immoderate. I had time to repent of it afterwards.
I bet. Luckily, Mildred has written the fix-it. I have a hard time reading that as anything but "whom no one had loved except me."
Oh, I'm with you. Also terribly amused. No wonder Peter and Lehndorff hit it off. They evidently have the same ideas when it comes to their respective princes....
