Peter's fate really does show Caroline at her best, for she had nothing to gain from being kind to this desperate young man, and she kept it up instead of making it a one time only thing. I feel justified in my headcanon re: her seeing a bit of her own circumstances in him, but even so: just very nice of her. Go Caroline!
