I'm trying to use my other account at least occasionally so I posted about my Yuletide gifts there, including the salon-relevant 12k fic that features Fritz, Heinrich, Voltaire, Fredersdorf, Saint Germain, Caroline Daum (Fredersdorf's wife), and Groundhog Day tropes! (Don't need to know canon.)
strangest fanart project yet
Date: 2023-01-25 09:45 pm (UTC)Katte is lacking one boot because I gave his original boots to Fritz and then didn't get around to making another one. He will, eventually, get another boot. Hopefully. Maybe.

Date: 2023-01-25 10:46 pm (UTC)The plushies are extremely fun to look at, and the boot backstory just makes it even better. Even felt!Katte's fate is to always be making sacrifices for Fritz. *tears of laughter*
Can I put this in Rheinsberg with the rest of your fanart?
(We would totally love to see last year's art pieces as well, if/when you have time to upload them. :D All of us are in awe of your ability to do magical things like art and reading handwriting!)
Speaking of boots and our boys! Can someone help me out with what "Stiefel-haden" means and why Kloosterhuis would put [!] next to the word in the inventory of stuff Peter left behind in his quarters when he deserted Wesel?
Some of last year's stuff
Date: 2023-01-26 05:16 pm (UTC)I honestly have no idea which of my artworks was the last one I showed to you... Did you get the one with Fritz and Fredersdorf and the dog?
The most time-consuming one of last year was probably this one:
I took a regular art class from March to June because I was told it might be beneficial for my mental health to set aside a specific time of the week to just work on art. The class sucked ass; however, I did work on art, so... partial success :'D The teacher was a guy four times my age who was basically deaf, mostly monologued about unrelated things instead of teaching anybody anything, and did not like his authority to be questioned (he was also one of those people who find out you're interested in something and immediately quiz you on it to show their superiority. Simply saying "I study art history in university" was not enough, i had to prove it to grandpa each and every week). The theme of the class was to paint things that made us happy - by which he meant flowers, landscapes, and random swatches of colour. Which I am not into, so I painted this because my little Katte problem does make me happy, in a way (this was my first mistake in interacting with this teacher, he hated my idea from the beginning).
The whole thing is 50x70 cm and was painted in acrylic, which I hate because it dries fast and gets super patchy very easily. It is also a pain to mix colours and I am not very good at it, which is why the overall colour pallette is not quite to my liking (I have a digital lineart for this somewhere, i might try to redo it). The evening I painted the face I stayed up for hours after class because I could not let the paints dry up and risk not getting the shades right the next time... I originally wanted to make Katte look more knight-like, but due to colour issues the only remnants of that are the flower crown (because the full version of the Katte coat of arms includes roses), the ribbon around his arm (knight's favour in the colours of the Hohenzollern crest for Fritz. The cipher on his cuirass also says FR instead of FWR), and the banner (Katte colours, pretty straightforward), but he still looks nice ^^ I got a little bit attached to the flower crown, I drew him in one another time.
The building in the back is the palace of Küstrin, but the art teacher kept repeating that I was painting Jeanne d'Arc in front of a random French castle and that I should think of something more symbolic because putting random architecture in the back just wouldn't do ("But WHY do you paint Jeanne d'Arc?" "I am not painting Jeanne d'Arc." "But what do you SEE in her? Also painting historical subjects is bad because you weren't there and don't know how it really happened; I am allegedly very educated about art but conveniently forgot that historical scenes are a huge and well respected genre of painting just to make you look dumb!"). I explained the symbolism multiple times, was not listened to, was eventually full on yelled at for holding a paint brush "wrong" and ended up writing my first strongly worded letter of complaint to the Volkshochschule offering the class :'D At least I got my money back. Sorry for ranting, this class was a huge thing for the first part of 2022.
Around the same time I made these two in coloured pencil:
Made them specifically so they could hang next to each other on my wall. Got lazy eventually, so I'm not quite satisfied with some stuff and the paper warped to hell and back, but they look rather sweet together.
And then, my magnum opus of the year:
The one fully finished digital piece! It's based on a statue that I saw a picture of, I thought the pose would be perfect for an overly devoted display of affection. Fritz's cheek is quite possibly the nicest thing I've painted all year. Here's the version without the overly dramatic lighting:
Re: Some of last year's stuff
Date: 2023-01-26 07:49 pm (UTC)Everything we have from you should be under the fanart tag
It does include this, so unless you fancied it up since that sketch, yes, we got it!
WOW that Katte on a horse! *heart eyes*
The colors, Küstrin, the Oder! The flower crown, lol!
But OMG that teacher! I'm glad you got your money back.
Jeanne d'Arc??!! Eradicating the entire genre of historical scenes?
Rant away, I would have ranted at least as much! Somewhere in the comments to this post is a rant about an art history prof I had 20 years ago. I've gotten people here used to rants, is what I'm saying. :'D
Made them specifically so they could hang next to each other on my wall.
Aww, your place must be amazing. I recently got some Fritzian decorations for my place, but none of them did I create myself. You have such magical skills!
Oh, let me show you: Sanssouci poster, bag and pillows, and as a bonus, my recently acquired Jeanne d'Arc plaque. Look, she's wearing armor! They must be the same person!
(My art history teacher could not tell Diocletian and the Tetrarchs from the popes, even in a work of art that he had chosen to teach us about and test us on.)
Aww, the devotion picture gives me feels. My BOYS. <33 What statue is that?
Gorgeous work, as always, thanks for sharing!
