Date: 2020-11-03 06:30 am (UTC)Aaaaaanyway, it's great and amazing this tradition went on for so long. Also, I'm reminded of thinking when I learned that among the state guests who were staying at Meseberg in the last two decades was Vladimir Putin: Well, I hope Kaphengst haunts the homophobic bastard with graphic memories!
Re: No homo! The sequel.
Date: 2020-11-07 06:28 pm (UTC)While telling this story to my wife (we were having "Kaphengst kommt" weather last week, with fallen leaves getting stirred up by strong winds), my inner twelve-year-old stumbled over "He was known for being a hard rider--well, in more than one sense of the word, possibly," and remembered to tell her that "hengst" means "stallion"! (As Google translate never tires of reminding us when it translates his name as Cape Stallion.)
Kaphengst: just made for double entendres, in conclusion.
Seconding your wish re Putin haunting.
