Oh man. While I may stop short of finding this endearing, exactly... I must say it does make me go "Oh, FW" in a more I-feel-sorry-for-you-rather-than-angry way than usual. Oh FW! (This story is also SO FW. "Never did things by halves" was practically his motto.)
Wolff: turned down all the offers and stayed the hell away from Prussia under both FW and Fritz, both of whom tried to entice him to come back.
And thus we can see that he was, indeed, very smart :D
