WHAT EVEN JUST HAPPENED
like I was still watching avidly but I was thinking, hmm, 41-beginning-of-42 is getting a little bogged down in tying up conspiracy and I hope it's not like this for the rest of the series
WELL
that will sure teach me to think things like that
Prince Yu rebelled????
(I legit did not think he was actually going to go through with it!) Also, the actor who plays Prince Yu is totally amazing -- Prince Yu is a pretty complicated character and I really like how the guy sells all of it
(also, surely Jingyan is getting a clue by now as to who MCS is?? now that MCS has just randomly drawn his sword??)
I can't believe this show had me CHEERING FOR THE EMPEROR after I've been side-eyeing him for practically the entire thing (now that the danger's past I am no longer cheering for him, haha)
I can believe I was CHEERING FOR MARQUIS YAN because I do every time he has a speaking role
I started actually sobbing when Nihuang showed up SHE IS SO GREAT and I was wondering why she hadn't showed up for a while
I'm now in the beginning of 45 and Jingyan has just said "please don't kill everyone, it would make the royal family look bad!!" and I'm all, awwww, you've learned something from MCS while still being your awesomesauce self!

Date: 2019-09-22 03:10 am (UTC)YES YES THIS ALL OF THIS. I was like, omg, the Jingyan of even ten episodes ago would have come right out and said that. And at the same time I love that he doesn't turn into Prince Yu and swallow the argument forever. He is learning how to be an Emperor <3
Prince Yu is wonderfully complicated. I really thought, when I was watching for the first time and basically unspoiled, that the story was going to involve MCS painstakingly waking up his sense of right and wrong and shaping him into a decent person. You can almost see how it would be possible, it makes me very sympathetic to how Marquis Yan and Lin Xie decided to put the Emperor on the throne, if Prince Yu is what he was like as a prince.
Wow, I like that. That would also have been a super interesting show. And I also didn't think about how that related to Marquis Yan and Lin Xie... I think perhaps the problem with that is what happens when you get absolute power and MCS isn't there any more? (At least, I'm working under the assumption here that MCS dies at the end. Don't spoil me! :) )
(That being said, every time the Emperor is all "Prince Yu, everyone says you're like me, but how can that be, you're awful and don't take responsibility for your actions!" I feel like Consort Chen is right there with me super side-eyeing him. Prince Yu is exactly like him!)
