I do very much like "Written by the Victors," and I'm not even in SGA fandom! (I may have watched up to season 2? Definitely not past season 2, though.)
That being said, it's the only fanfic D has ever read, so I guess by definition it's the best for him... although he also would class it as "enjoyable" rather than "really awesome."
I see what you're saying about fanfic not having awards in print-fic fandom. ...And you know, it occurs to me that I'd probably vote for John M. Ford's The Final Reflection for a Hugo, so there's my counterexample :) (I might consider voting for one of Duane's Rihannsu novels as well.)
