I actually liked that she did Camlann properly, though this is because I am really weird (and have read too many botched Morte d'Arthur scenes, and also too much Depressing Welsh Lit), because like you I was also all, "Um, in this case what was the whole POINT of the first book?"
Have you read the third book, then? I have a major problem with it, which I forgot about when I was posting, though in general I really liked it.
