(It figures that I've always found visually appealing the jewelry subgenre that's essentially the twining that people do with thread, except in metal--even before I taught myself to crochet. During my three years of SCA, I helped people spin copper wire for links and neeeeearly took up making chain mail, but crochet won (despite being out of period) because its startup costs were much lower.)
