Hanging out with family is really a wonderful opportunity for reflection and analysis. And sometimes realizing that someone needs to be the person who stops the "after you", "no, after you" dance of scheduling, which... does not seem to be the problem you're having.
Small kids at the beach is one of life's awesome fun things. :-)
