btw, I read Children after I had written the fic, so any similarities are for the most part convergent evolution rather than direct influence. But I also read it before Yuletide opened, so I did add the scene with Calvin after reading it and realizing how powerful it was to have the point of divergence in-text. So it did have one major effect :)
