I don't know about Darkangel generally because I barely remember anything of the plot--but I read the trilogy in ninth because a friend handed the books to me, and something happens near the end of book three that felt hard. Wish I had anything concrete.
+1 Duane's Wizards as possible for this age range--Reason met them a year ago and still rereads them for comfort.
