In this case, you need some basic background on Connor, otherwise I can't imagine you'd get very far, given his two sets of memories and livetimes and the reasons for that right at the start of the story. We can't be sure whether he is her biological descendant, though obviously they belong to the same family. Also, said family every few generations tends to produce a trickster archetype referred to as "The Laughing Magician", which Johanna and John are in their respective generations.
Lol, now I'm imagining Desire just... appearing as default Algarotti in that generation, to everyone :
