This whole paragraph I found repugnant (from a modern standpoint) and fascinating, analytically speaking. I guess that on the whole I'm glad that Fritz was better than the past and that we are better than his age :P
The next big change in Prussia re: capital punishment comes in 1795 and is therefore out of the scope of our era.
