In this case, it's less of a merge than an absorption, so Ward G will keep its bishop and my ward's bishop will be released (will no longer have a calling and will be given some kind of different calling in the new ward). They did say they would try to reorganize the bishoprics, etc. to put more of our ward's people in leadership roles. I assume our bishop will be one of those (it would be crazy not to do that).

When wards are truly merged, they usually just call a new bishop (this has happened before in this stake as well, but well before I moved here).
