Historical Characters, Including Frederick the Great, Discussion Post 48
Some awesome historical RPF
candyheartsex stories for meeeeee (or by me, in one tiny case) with historical characters! I'm just going to note whom the stories are about here. They are all so good!!
Anne Boleyn/Catherine of Aragorn
Frances Howard and Frances Coke (or: James I's court was basically a HOTBED of scandal, omg)
And two that are also historical RPF but also consistent with the Jude Morgan novel The King's Touch, which is an excellent historical novel narrated by James ("Jemmy") Scott, Duke of Monmouth, Charles II's illegitimate son.
Princess Henrietta of England (Charles II's sister and wife of Philippe I duc d'Orleans)
James of Monmouth/William/Mary

Re: FW - G2 duel
The important thing is that I've gone from being a skeptic about this episode to being a believer. It happened!
I never doubted. :) And would still like that AU where the duel happens, for popcorn entertainment value, no matter who wins.
BTW, not exactly new to us and not surprising but maybe worth pointing out: that year when FW and G2 got (almost) at it, 1729, had G2 staying at Hannover (of course) and for a long time. Now, Hervey mentions the almost duel, but NOT in the context of his description of G2's lengthy time in Hannover. No, that he talkls about in the context of G2 as Prince of Wales always giving his English subjects the impression that unlike his dear old father, he thinks the Brits are the best annd he sees himself as one of them and Hannover is inferior, and the moment he's crowned he reveals an unholy interest with Hannover and all things HRE, and keeps fucking off to the continent to spend lots of time there; Hervey gives you the impression said time was spend finding a German mistress. Now, the 1912 book is anything but G2 friendly, but it does state as a matter of fact that G2 of course could not go back to England for as long as there was a chance of actual war between Hannover and Prussia. In other words, this was not him vacationing, this was him being a responsible sovereign.
Re: FW - G2 duel
That IS mean! :P :)
Prussian Efrafa
Which leads me to the question: would Fritz have gone for Hazel‘s suggestion of a peaceful merger? Would FW?
Re: Prussian Efrafa
So, who exactly is Hazel in this scenario? Also, what would a "peaceful merger" be to an 18th century monarch? Doesn't sound like something that would appeal to many of them, unless they'll be guaranteed to be chief rabbit of the resulting warren.
Re: Prussian Efrafa
Wellllll, I don't know about 18th century, but in the mid 19th century, there's the obvious hotly debated example of how to achieve German unification: i.e. would a unified Germany include the Austrians or not, and if with the Austrians, who would get to be Emperor? (Bear in mind here that while current day Germans and Austrians think of themselves as different people, in the 18th century such a distinction wasn't made. Hence for example Mozart and Joseph (the Emperor) referring to themselves as German, and the famous pamphlet calling for an end of the British subsidaries for Fritz arguing that having settled its beef with France, Britain had no business supporting "a German civil war" (i.e. Fritz versus MT). Anyway, by the mid 19th century, the Hohenzollerns and Prussia had achieved such undisputed supremacy that it wasn't really a question anymore that a Hohenzollern, not a Habsburg would be Emperor if the new state wasn't a republic (and alas only a small group of revolutionaries was ready for one), not to mention that the current Habsburg Emperor in the 1848 revolution was feeble minded (and was replaced post revolution by his nephew Franz Joseph, who who would live all the way till WWI), and Austria doing its own thing post Napoleon had been established, so the voices for a unified Germany including Austria were beaten by the so called "kleindeutsche Lösung", i.e. a unified Germany minus Austria.
But: in the 18th century, circumstances were somewhat different. Also the HRE did still exist. So a peaceful merger = Hohenzollern/Habsburg super state. I mean, not fun for anyone else in Europe, to be sure. Buuuuuut with enough twists and turns, it's the closest thing I can come up with to Hazel's idea.
Before anyone says anything: No, MT is definitely not Hazel. MT is very un-Hazel-like. Joseph is a bit too aggressive, too, with his REFORM NOW NOW NOW ways and the Bavarian War of Succession, but maybe in a world where a few things go differently for him earlier on he learns chill and patience. Otherwise I'm eying FS or Leopold for Hazel's role, if not exact character.
Re: Prussian Efrafa
Lol, I would NEVER! As soon as
I am enjoying this thread despite having little to contribute to it. I am also delighted with this development:
Salon is SO GREAT. :D <3
