Yosemite 2014

We went to Yosemite to hang out with K/B/D in what I am kinda hoping becomes an annual thing (this is the second year we've done this), because it is awesome. The two kids were both sort of wild with happiness to play together, which is, at least on our end, extremely weird and totally awesome (E usually regards other children her own age with some suspicion and/or extreme introvertedness). For the second time we did not do Pothole Dome together, this time because of the weather. This just means we will have to go back! We did, however, find out that E thought that "Yosemite" meant "Pothole Dome," when she kept asking us when we were going to Yosemite and we kept telling her we were already there, and we both were confused.

-We brought the travel potty this time, but ended up not needing it (yay!)

-Underscheduling works way better for small children than overscheduling. However, it may make the adults slightly more grumpy.

-Yeeeah, maybe take the heavier coats next time. We were prepared for 50-degree weather, but not the 40-degree weather that we could conceivably have ended up in. (K/B/D learned from last year and were prepared that way too. They are smart, what can I say.)

-Perhaps I should not assume D can handle all the cleaning up and car packing by himself, and he should not assume that when I take E outside the hotel room that we will return in less than an hour, even if we are nominally only going a short distance to deliver flapjacks. Because in between here and there are stairs! and elevators! and a river with rocks! and swimming pools which must be carefully scrutinized to see how many feet deep they are! Perhaps I should push harder for not making flapjacks at all if we actually want to get out the door at a reasonable hour, in fact, even though they are awfully yummy.

-Small children biking is totally great! We were particularly pleased that E's compatriot does not have training wheels anymore, which led to E really wanting to take hers off (though we thought it should wait until after the trip). Score! (Though it has been soooo hoooot since we got back that we have not gone biking at all.)

-Rivers in September are awesome things, for kids and grownups alike! (I say "in September" because rivers in June have lots of mosquitoes, which, yuck.) The kids mostly liked tossing gravel into the river, but hey, I will take what I can get.

-E tends to lose steam when we stop for lunch, while her fellow child-in-crime seems to gain energy. Interesting.
