Fullmetal Alchemist (Volumes 19-21)
Volume 19 (Chapters 74-78):
-Man, Olivier has got GUTS to talk to Bradley like that.
-HAWKEYE PASSING SECRET MESSAGES TO MUSTANG. YOU GUYS.
-HOHENHEIM. *flails madly about* I… did not see that, at all. I totally got misdirected into thinking Hohenheim was created by "Father." Well played.
-In general: *flails madly about* WOW. OH. So THAT is what going on. OH. WOW.
-It's interesting, the differences between Team Briggs and Ed.
-Fake!Al is adorable.
-…Okay, someone tell me how equivalent exchange works with Ed healing himself with his own soul. Does he lose some of his own soul? Take years off his life?
-It's… hard… to describe the relief one feels in seeing the new transmutation circle. Wow.
-So, I was pretty happy to get the backstory on the Seven Sins… except that… it sure does seem like "Father" has Pride and Greed, at least? Or am I missing something? Maybe not lust, though. Also, why does "Father" have tubes all over him?
Volume 20 (Chapters 79-83):
-Drachma… that was… anticlimactic! (One doesn't say that a lot in FMA. It was, in fact, sort of climactically anticlimactic.) TEAM BRIGGS 4EVER
-The TRIPLE CROSS! I love Team Marcoh-and-Scar more than ever!
-Okay… the whole Mei/Envy plot is sort of… I don't know.
-One of the things I think is so amazing is how every once in a while I actually feel a little sorry for Bradley, even though he would totally scorn me for it. Also, man, HAWKEYE, she's got nerves of steel.
-GREED. Oh man, Greed/Ling is getting to be one of my favorite characters. (Also, I'm not really into the battles in general, but Greed/Bradley battle was really awesome.)
-I… am not sure what it means for Ed to be Greed's henchman?
-"I'm not about to start fussing over who's human and who's not." INTERESTING, Ed.
-I will never not love Olivier. SO AWESOME.
-In related news, I will NEVER be tired of the little sparkles around all of the Armstrongs. NEVER.
-"Ah, Alex, you're just in time. Battle your sister." When this is done I am SO going to be looking for Armstrong fic
-"I WILL BATTLE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART, SOUL, AND MUSCLE"
-"You probably heard about that little border skirmish with Drachma?" OH DRACHMA. You thought you were something!
-REBECCA KATARINA. MORE PLEASE. Also Hawkeye! Also Havoc!
-The Promised Day… is coming!
Volume 21:
-Okay, I love how this starts with sheep.
-Ahahaha, I was skeptical about the Greed henchman thing, but apparently Greed is very protective of his henchmen… okay then.
-…okay, I would also read Mustang ribbing Olivier by acting slightly skeevy as well as Olivier shutting him down cold FOREVER, also secret messages
-Ahahahaha, I love lion guy and gorilla guy, they are AWESOME even if I can't remember their names: "It's probably just some ridiculous grudge."
-AUGH I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY I JUST WANT TO READ MORE
Mostly I want to talk about the vid I want. Okay, I've admired vids in the past but have never really desired one myself, but I now have a vid that I really REALLY want. Please tell me that someone has made this vid.
Because the runup to the Promised Day has GOT to be set to "One Day More" somewhere, RIGHT??
Also, it turned out that I... had some headcanon not just about how the characters in FMA would be cast in a Les Miserables production, but how they would behave as well.
Valjean: Von Hohenheim, OF COURSE (although Marcoh might be a good understudy). He would be reclusive and not interact with the rest of the cast much, but would be polite and friendly when he did.
Marius/Cosette: FMA… doesn't really do lovesick… or even tender… everyone is too busy being shot at. I was thinking the the closest there is (at least at this point) is the relationship between Ed and Al. It's not perfect, but it actually fits surprisingly well. ("How can I live when we are parted?") Ed would be allergic to comments on his high notes.
Eponine: Winry? Mei? This is the weakest part of the whole piece in terms of mapping to FMA, but Mei in one of her fantasy moods would work, perhaps?
Enjolras: OLIVIER. OF COURSE. Mustang would be the understudy. There would be bitter wars in fandom over which Enjolras was preferred, with the general consensus being that Olivier was by far the better singer, but Mustang was the better actor and loved more by the majority of fandom. Occasionally Olivier and Mustang would team up against Ed to give Mustang what should properly be Ed's line: "My place is here; I fight with you!"
Les Amis: Team Briggs and Team Mustang. (I imagine Team Briggs would do the main melody — "One day to a new beginning" and Team Mustang would be the backup — "Let the flag of freedom fly!")
Javert: King Bradley and Selim, duetting "One day more to revolution / We will nip it in the bud." For "I will learn their little secrets / I will know the things they know…" Selim could do it, but if he were in a prima donna snit (you KNOW Selim would have prima donna snits) Greed might, for a slightly different interpretation… and sometimes the director would slot in Ling, or Scar (both of whom aren't really in the production in original casting, but who sometimes come by for an odd amusing job, and the director always has the strange feeling that they think they're doing him a favor) for an entirely different interpretation…
Thenardiers: Pinako and Winry (with shots of them attaching limbs to people). "Catch 'em as they fall!" Maybe Marcoh and Knox as well. They would be the nicest and most popular people in the production!
PLEASE tell me this vid exists, or make it for me if it doesn't, BECAUSE I WANT IT. :) (Or else tell me your headcanon about Miserables!FMA characters.)
