You should try a scooter! We got this one as a gift a few weeks ago, and it was a huge hit--ultra-stable and just the right size. Not adjustable, so I hope he doesn't hit a growth spurt too soon.
(Aside: when looking for it on Amazon, I realized it's pretty pricey for a scooter. And there was a recall on this model last summer, so I'd be cautious about buying one used. Maybe it's not a great rec after all...)
I think part of the allure, for our kiddo, was that he got it out and read the (kid friendly, illustrated) instructions, and realized he needed a helmet. And we said YOU HAVE TO HAVE A HELMET BEFORE YOU RIDE IT and then for one afternoon, it was a cool and forbidden thing! It upped his interest, because my child is contrary like that.
