Yeah, I definitely think Peter David was a cut above the other ST:TNG books I read :) I have a pretty dim memory of his other books, though -- do you have a favorite? I seem to remember Q-in-Law being good too, although I imagine it would be hard to go wrong with Lxwana and Q together :)
Oh, I think some of the TOS fiction is really excellent, actually, although of course it has some totally awful stuff as well. Diane Duane's books are all very good -- Wounded Sky and My Enemy, My Ally in particular I'd recommend without reservation. John M. Ford wrote two spectacular books, but Ford is definitely an acquired taste and I don't rec those except to people who have that taste :) And then the two above are quite fun as well.
