Historical Characters, Including Frederick the Great, Discussion Post 47

We haven't had a new post since before December 25, so obligatory Yuletide link to this hilarious story of Frederick the Great babysitting his bratty little brother, with bonus Fritz/Fredersdorf!

Re: Two Philippes, no waiting, redux

That family tree is going to get even more complicated and incestous once Philippe the Regent marries his daughter to Philip the Frog's son as part of the ill fated two princesses deal. :)

Indeed! I like how we can at least distinguish the 3 Philippes as Gay, Regent, and Frog. :D And I've tried to spell the Frog differently solely for the sake of visual distinction. (You do have to remember, though, [personal profile] cahn, that Philippe is not yet regent in the period we're talking about; Louis XIV is still alive.) Also, Philip is not yet a frog, that won't be until the late 1720s (that I know of).

Also, I meant to say that given this is *Versailles*, i.e. the place where rank counts more than anything, and the d'Orleans family is constantly playing second fiddle to the main Bourbon line, I do believe that even for the sake of rank/prestige/family honor, they wanted their names listed on the documents even if they weren't making an actual bid for the throne.
