Alas, continuing back pain means I still can't properly reply to comments, much less tell you about all my findings from my readings, even less decipher the latest acquisitions from the archives, but just a note that if you want to know how 19th-century historians sold Seydlitz, there *is* a copy of Varnhagen von Ense's 1834 bio of the same in the library.
