Fritz is not your dream boss: The Bad Pyrmont edition

I'm reading Hartmann's book on Danish-Prussian relations, and the Prussian ambassador to Copenhagen is August von Haesler.

He kept asking to leave this post, but it's 1755, the Seven Years' War is about to break out, the diplomatic situation is delicate, and Fritz keeps saying "No, if I have to on-board someone newi n Copenhagen, it's going to undo all my hard work. You need to stay on."

At the latter's request for leave of absence for a trip to the baths at Pyrmont, [Fritz] said that he could hardly imagine that a man in his prime would be so exhausted that he would have to restore his health by means of mineral springs. There would be so many people who would benefit from the air in Copenhagen. It would be beneficial for him too, provided he stops behaving like an imaginary sick person. An officer who applies for leave to go to the baths is threatened with arrest for this offence.

Me: But Fritz, you needed to take the waters when you were just 32 years old! Not that it matters, but how old was this guy, anyway?

...

Me: Wikipedia says he was 62??!

I could see this as a letter to askamanager.org, [personal profile] cahn, what say you?

ETA: I cross-checked the letter in the Political Correspondence (Hartmann is good about footnotes, for all his flaws), and yep, the letter says what he says it says!
