To be fair to him, though, he was apparently much better with his mistress and their illegitimate daughters, i.e. his family of choice rather than the family forced on him by politics. He spent a lot of time with his mistress and daughters, and was more forgiving of one daughter's sexual peccadilloes (getting caught in adultery and then wanting a divorce) than her mother!
