Yeah, that's fair -- although I think a lot of the people involved didn't deal that strongly with El, so it was either a secondhand effect or there was some actual thought involved. (I also think the book is making an argument that people -- even groups of people -- can sometimes, occasionally, choose the right thing even when not coerced, so I'm kind of looking at it from that pov too.)

It's infuriating, but even El had to be chivvied that way, so I don't think she'll be infuriated at people so much as just... infuriated. Stable local maximum versus instable global maximum, ugh.
