Good, glad it was helpful! It is an impressive debut but it really does, I feel, have a nontrivial amount of that first-book clunkiness about it, to where about a third of the way in I actually went looking to see if it was her first book or not. And I reread what I wrote and I should say that the plot twists are very YA -- like, I saw all of them coming miles in advance, but I don't necessarily feel like that's a minus in a YA book.

I haven't read either Shout or Empress.)
