Well, FWII immediately got him out of prison and gave him his job back - if he'd said anything else, I'd have been surprised. :)

I was going to say the same! He was in prison (possibly on false charges) thanks to Fritz on the day of Fritz's death! Obviously he was thrilled to learn that he would be released.

What I find interesting is that he was informed immediately--perhaps FW2's people had gotten word to him beforehand, and on the 17th, he learned that Fritz was dead, and knew his prison days were soon to end.

I didn't say the reaction wasn't understandable. :)

But yes, even if he was being a bit hyperbolic in the dedication and he didn't find out FW2 would release him literally on day 1 post Fritz, he was free before the year was over and not just back in his old job, but getting promotions and more jobs in 1787. Which would argue that either FW2 or someone close to him had paid attention to Manger's case and thought highly of him and his professional skills. If that's the case, I can easily believethey'd be considerate enough to ensure Manger would get notified his time in prison would now end soon as quickly as possible.
