Re: Suhm family history

Ernst is Oldest Son Of Beloved Suhm, that's why not. Also if Ernst was in Silesia, Georgii could have been outed by him directly (to Fritz). So it's more convenient if he's not

I agree. Plus the more I thought about it while writing that post, the more I concluded historical Ernst probably went to university before joining the army, for the following reasons:
- eldest son and Suhm family tradition,
- Fritz sponsoring education,
- only a lieutenant in 1757, suggesting a recent advent to his military career.

I left the Silesia possibility in there only in case it was of use to you for the fic. (I was going to explain this in an ETA, but was right up against the character word limit. I kept having to go through and rephrase things to get rid of 30 characters here and there.)

"he saw a young guy who needed help, he helped, you know how he was"

Ooooh noooooes :-((

Now he's exploiting MY grief!

possibly even sending him back to Berlin to look after things there (this will later gossip-wise, transform in "Fredersdorf fell out of favour/was put back into his old regiment)

But Fredersdorf will come back to the field and get unfettered access to the tent again, right? Oh, yes, you said later on that he comes back to the front. Score!

Speaking of which:

1) I've seen in secondary sources but not yet in primary that Katte had access to Fritz's rooms in the palace at all hours of the day and night, and when he was there, the servants had orders to keep out. (Guys, this isn't going to make homophobic king suspicious at aaalll.) Did Kloosterhuis say anything to this effect?

2) Remember at Soor when Fritz writes to Fredersdorf, "If you were here, none of this would have happened"? Upon reflection, that line makes me think that Fredersdorf was at least at one point in the field with Fritz. 1741 seems the likeliest.

Furthermore, I wonder if something happened at some point where Fredersdorf had a moment of quiet organizational glory that only Fritz appreciated. It doesn't need to have been a battle, any Pandur raid would do. (Mimi's unsung exploits remain lost to the pages of history and are left as an exercise for the reader, or the writer of crack fic.)

has spy interlude in Dresden

In person? Or do you mean he focuses on getting a spy in Dresden? The latter seems more likely to me, but you tell me what you're thinking.
