Yeah, like, I am absolutely gonna blame him for AW even if he had messed-up reasons for behaving that way -- but I don't see how you can blame him for anything he did with respect to FW.
Right? Especially if what he's doing is writing a letter saying, "Yep, Your Royal Dadness, whatever you say! Happy to obey all your commands!" There's no pleasing these people, I swear. SMH.
Also, it occurred to me that "these biographers have apparently never seen an abusive relationship before" is an eerie echo of Fritz's "Has my dad never seen an unhappy marriage before??" Fast-forward to Heinrich, twenty years later. "Has my brother..."
So basically, the capacity of humans to be messed up should not be underestimated.
Though, I mean, I guess even Wilhelmine does it
Yeah, that's extreeeemely normal for abused children/grown children. Fritz does it too. The opposite is the exception.
Hm. I suppose maybe I could read it if you point out the elementary mistakes?
Ha, I suspect at least one of the elementary mistakes you could point out yourself. Pop quiz time!
Katte was executed by: a) sword b) axe
Oh, and also, the immediately preceding sentence.
True or false, "Frederick was forced to watch from a window immediately above the place of execution"?
:P
[ETA: Okay, the second one isn't elementary, but the first one is! AO3 authors now have an excuse, I guess. :P]
I feel sort of weird about having this front-row seat to sensationalistic scholarship and yet not having read a single bio :)
Haha. Well, I'm working on Blanning, but no promises on time to completion. He's a lighter read than MacDonogh, though, so that's encouraging.
