ahahahaha, yes, the Schiller translation I have is an old one that distinguishes between "thou" and "you," and makes a big deal of "Call me thou!" I hadn't thought about it, but when I went back to look for that bit, indeed Carlos calls Posa "thou" pretty much constantly but Posa uses "you" until that bit. I wonder how a more modern translation would deal with it.
I didn't know that about Gretchen! I don't think the modern translation you pointed me to makes that distinction -- I'll have to go back and check now :)
